As part of the celebration of National Mills Day, which is celebrated on April 7th, the municipality of Vagos promotes, together with the Parish Councils of Ouca and Soza, Grupo Folclórica de Santo António de Vagos, Confraria Sabores da Abóbora, Pró-Boco Association and the owners of the municipality’s mills/watermills, three days of activities and unique experiences around the molinological heritage. The program will take place on April 6th, 7th and 13th.

On the 6th, 7th and 13th of April, the Azenhas Barreto and Ti Luísa, the Moinho and Azenha de Ouca, the Ti Pascoal and Santo António de Vagos Rotary Windmills will be open, on specific dates and times, according to the program, for all those who want to know them, inside and out. This activity takes place within the scope of the national initiative “Moinhos Abertos” of the Portuguese Mills Network, which aims to open to the public, for free access, as many mills as possible across the country!

In addition to visits to the mills, visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy some experiences, with the aim of introducing and sharing some of the local customs and traditions.

The morning of the 6th (Saturday) will be dedicated to “Traditions at Azenhas da Aldeia do Boco” where it will be possible, at Azenha da Ti Luísa, to experience the entire manufacturing process of Broa Mimosa, from grinding the corn to making the dough and when placing it in the oven!

It is also an opportunity to show younger people how a watermill works and how it can transform corn into flour! While the dough is rising, participants will be invited to take a walk through the Bo-o Valley, ending with a tasting of local products: Broa Mimosa, pumpkin jam and cream cheese.

This activity, organized by Associação Pró-Boco and Confraria Sabores da Abóbora, is limited to 30 participants, with mandatory registration (6.50 mills and free up to 12 years old).

On Sunday, April 7th, the day will be full of activities starting at Parque do Moinho and Azenha de Ouca with various activities organized by the Parish Council of Ouca. Here, the morning begins with an interpretative visit to the mills, at 9:00 am, and at 10:00 am there is nothing like seeing, hearing and feeling the most beautiful and fun stories with Contos no Moinho.

At 11 am, the “MAMAMIA, Make Your Pizza!” workshop is scheduled to take place. where it will be possible to create your own pizza, from preparing the dough to placing the ingredients, with the promise of a super appetizing finish. This activity is free, but registration is mandatory and limited to 15 participants. At 12:00, in the same place, the activity “Sabores da Minha Terra” will take place, a tasting of local products with bread, jams, suckling pig sandwiches and “Quinta da Pedreira” sparkling wine, with mandatory registration (7.50 mills and free up to 6 years old). Finally, there is an invitation to an outdoor lunch with “There is a picnic in the park”. To participate, just bring your lunch, a towel and an umbrella and a desire to relax. During this activity, there will be a Treasure Hunt, aimed at families, so there are no reasons left to come to Ouca on this day.

In the afternoon, and back to Aldeia do Boco, “Come Kiss the Cross in Azenhas”! On this day, it is Easter Day in Boco – Aldeia de Portugal and, as such, you are invited to participate in the Easter visit that will tour the watermills and mills of Vale do Boco. The invitation is made by the Pro.Boco Association, which will prepare everything to make this experience unique, including Folar, Sponge Cake, Almonds and Coconut Cakes, which are always present on Easter tables. This activity is free, but registration is required.
