The Portuguese automobile market registered 68,520 new vehicles in circulation between January and March, which represents an acceleration of 13.1% in sales compared to the first quarter of last year, according to data provided by the Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP ) revealed yesterday.
Of the new registrations registered, which correspond to sales, 59,044 units are light passenger vehicles, 13.1% more compared to the same period in 2023.
In the first quarter, 51.5% of new registered passenger vehicles “were powered by other types of energy, namely electric and hybrid”, according to the sector association led by Helder Pedro. And 16% of new passenger cars were 100% electric.
Among light goods, in accumulated terms, the market reached 7591 units sold, an increase of 14.1% compared to the same period in 2023.
In heavy passenger and goods vehicles, the numbers point to 1885 new units entering circulation in the first quarter of this year, 9.5% more compared to the same period last year.
