Luís Montenegro knows Madeira’s problems “very well”, said the resigning president of the regional government. “The current prime minister knows Madeira’s problems very well. In fact, knows perhaps better than any other prime minister and what we need is to try to put it into practice”, said Miguel Albuquerque, in statements to journalists on the sidelines of a visit to a housing project at controlled costs, in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos.

Miguel Albuquerque highlighted the review of the Regional Finance Law, whose work must continue, as well as other pending “dossiers”, such as the new Madeira Free Zone regime.

Regarding the new Government of the Republic, which took office on Tuesday, the Madeiran social democrat highlighted that it will be an executive that “depends heavily on the formation of consensus in parliament”, since “unfortunately it does not have the majority to govern”.

“Some of the measures will be carried out by government decree, but the regime issues, the essential issues will have to be consensual”, he stated.

Miguel Albuquerque, who won the PSD/Madeira direct elections on March 21, also said that Luís Montenegro, who is the party’s leader, will be present at the Social Democrats’ Regional Congress, which takes place on April 20 and 21.
