The highest paid public positions in Portugal, which are part of special careers, to which the values ​​of the single table are not applied, are those of President of the Supreme Court of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic, with a gross remuneration of 7119 .50 euros.

The information is part of a simulator made available a few days ago by the General Directorate of Administration and Public Employment (DGAEP) that allows all interested parties to know what careers and positions exist in the State and the corresponding salary. Although it is not part of this universe, it should be noted, as a term of comparison, that a prime minister receives, as a base salary, around six thousand euros.

One of the positions foreseen in the Public Administration staff is that of butler of the Presidency of the Republic. O CM confirmed that the position, planned only for the Belém Palace, is occupied and that, despite the pompous term, it currently corresponds to the person responsible for coordinating employees at the head of state’s residence. The base remuneration provided for in the simulator made available by DGAEP on its official page is 1157.91 euros.

The tool was recently made available and allows you to consult the value of remuneration for different careers, categories and positions in Public Administration. “The simulator is intended, in particular, for citizens who wish to establish a public employment relationship, workers in public functions and the public in general”, explains the DGAEP.

The Public Administration remuneration system has 115 positions in the single table, which correspond to gross salaries ranging between 821.83 euros and 6819.79 euros.

Teachers, doctors or security force agents constitute some of the most numerous professional groups in the State, but the list available also includes nature watchers or rock workers, professionals specialized in carrying out cleaning and maintenance work on embankments and rocky cliffs, according to the dictionary.The current career regime is characterized, according to that organization, by a significantly lower number of careers than previously existing ones with more comprehensive functional content. It qualifies careers as general and special, systematizing them according to the degree of functional complexity required for integration into each one. Currently, there are still some careers that have not been extinguished or revised, namely those with a special regime and those with special bodies, without prejudice to the review that must take place under the legally stipulated terms, adds the DGAEP.

State employs 745,606 people for public services

At the end of last year, the number of public employees reached 745,406, reflecting an increase of 0.4% year-on-year and 1% compared to the previous quarter, according to a statistical summary of public employment, developed by the Directorate- General Administration and Public Employment (DGAEP).
Comparing with the last quarter of 2011 (beginning of the series), there was an increase of 2.4% (corresponding to 17,705 more jobs), according to the document.In the last quarter of 2023, compared to the same period last year, there was an increase of 3239 jobs. Growth attributed mainly to municipalities, with the hiring of 2,072 jobs. In central administration, the year-on-year increase of 701 jobs was essentially driven by employment in higher education technician careers and university and polytechnic teaching staff.
