Abandoned houses will pay more IMI in Viseu

The objective is to clean the black spots from the urban landscape of the city of Viseu and at the same time create more houses for housing, seeking to balance the market between demand and supply.

The municipality of Viseu is surveying abandoned houses and buildings in the city center so that the owners can rehabilitate them. Those who do not accept will be penalized through an increase in municipal property tax.

As the years go by, everything ages. The difference is when there is no concern about preserving what remains.

The Viseu municipality therefore decided to create urban pressure zones, where owners of dilapidated and abandoned buildings will be invited to intervene, otherwise they will suffer an increase in municipal property tax.

The new regulation will be implemented by the end of this year, with the municipality’s services currently surveying degraded properties in areas under urban pressure.
