Continuing the meetings held in previous years, this year’s event, under the theme “Young People, Social Networks, Desinformation and Intolerance”calls on young people and the school community to reflect on the phenomena of disinformation and intolerance, as they represent complex and interconnected challenges for democracy in Europe and around the world.
Addressing all these challenges requires a multifaceted approach that involves strengthening media literacy, promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue, combating discrimination and defending fundamental democratic values such as freedom of expression, equality and the State of Right. Only through coordinated and collaborative efforts can we hope to mitigate the negative effects of these phenomena and protect the health of our democracies.
Integrated in the 12th edition of the Operation “7 Days with the Media”which has as its theme “Discourses of hatred and Peace in Times of War”, the National Media Education Meeting aims to:
· Develop awareness among school-age audiences about the risks of excessive use of social networks as sources of information
· Raise awareness among young people about the importance of journalism and information through journalistic sources
· Alert to the need to develop skills that aim to prevent the adoption of behaviors that identify intolerance
· Acquire knowledge about tools that allow you to identify disinformation content
· Contextualize disinformation as a threat to democracy and Europe’s founding values
This meeting’s target audience is students and teachers at different levels of education, who are involved or interested in the topic. In addition to the media domain, this meeting counts on the collaboration and articulation of the domains of Human Rights and Security, Defense and Peace.
It is certified as a Short-Term Training Course (ACD) lasting 6 hours, under Order 5741/2015 of May 29, for the purposes of teaching career progression: Early Childhood Educators, teachers of basic and secondary education and special education.
