First published in 1979, ‘The Neverending Story‘ became a bestseller in Germany and has been translated into more than 45 languages, selling millions of copies worldwide.

The plot revolves around a misfit but creative child named Bastian Balthasar Bux who, while escaping from school bullies, discovers the mysterious titular book, which chronicles the adventures of the heroic young warrior Atreyu and his mission to save the enchanted kingdom. of Fantasy – a world of dragons, giants, vast kingdoms and deadly swamps.

Atreyu is on a mission to prevent Fantasia and its ruler, the Girl Empress, from being consumed by a force known as The Void.

But the more Bastian reads, the more he realizes that he is not simply a spectator of the story and soon finds himself transported to Fantasy, flying atop the lucky dragon Falkor.

“The story created by Michael Ende is timely and timeless, and truly has the opportunity to be told in a new way. Part of the book’s specialty is that you can return to it at different times in your life and find different levels of meaning. So it’s wonderful that we have this opportunity to create a new perspective that will have new layers and meanings. We just believe that each generation deserves its own Fantasia journey.”

It is worth remembering that the novel has already been adapted for film and TV, with the 1984 version being the best known.

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen from the script written by him together with himself Endethe adaptation was a critical success, winning 83% approval at the Rotten Tomatoes.

The original feature produced two sequels, which unfortunately were not as successful and were a failure with the public and critics.
