A film shot in Cataguases and which is the largest film production produced by Polo Audiovisual da Zona da Mata reached the top 10 most watched on Netflix Brazil. The feature film “Predestinado”, which tells the story of Arigó, one of the best-known mediums in Brazil, reached ninth position this Wednesday (3). Before being made available on the streaming platform, the work was also shown in 600 cinemas across the country.
Directed by Gustavo Fernández and produced by Roberto D’Ávila, the film had scenes shot in Cataguases and Rio Novo, which served as representations of Congonhas and Belo Horizonte, respectively. Filming began in 2018, with Danton Mello and Juliana Paes in the main roles.
The production had 130 professionals in the production area, 60 actors and around 1,200 extras, who were from the regions filmed.
This is the only Brazilian feature film among the most watched at the moment. The list is led by “The Wages of Fear”, a French production, and “Soul of a Hunter”, which is South African.
‘Predestined’ Story
“Predestinado” is a biopic that seeks to tell the story of Arigó, 51 years after his death. He became known in Brazil for, through the spirit of Dr. Fritz, being able to treat millions of people through “spiritual surgeries”. This doctor was a German who died during the First World War, and who cured several patients in his lifetime.
Arigó’s mediumship began to emerge around the 1950s, and since he began to become popular he was also persecuted by many. At the time, spiritualism was not a well-known religion in the country. Throughout his life, Arigó was arrested for witchcraft and even studied by NASA researchers, who came to Minas Gerais to try to understand his gift.
This is also the first film directed by Gustavo Fernández, one of those responsible for “Pantanal”. In the film, Juliana Paes also plays an important role, as Arlete, the medium’s wife, with whom he had seven children.
