Two seasons later, Benfica once again lifted the Portuguese Cup trophy! In Torres Novas, the eagles beat GDESSA 61-42 and became champions of the competition for the third time.

It was a duel completely dominated by Eugénio Rodrigues’ team in most details. The first period showed this, despite the great response given by the Barreiros team. At the end of the first ten minutes, Benfica led 17-14.

In the second quarter, the story was practically the same, but a greater fragility of GDESSA was noticed. With the lack of effectiveness being the enemy, the team led by André Martins began to decline and scored 12 points, compared to Benfica’s 18 in that part.

After the break, a new offensive attack from Benfica with great dominance. Despite the greater balance in the third period, which ended with a 12-10 victory for the Eagles, the last and decisive ten minutes ended in celebration for the Luz club. GDESSA managed little or nothing to do anything on the court, apart from the six points, and the reds took the victory with the 14 achieved.

Thus, Benfica lifted the competition’s third trophy in the history of the sport, winning 61-42.
