The 35-year-old coach was in his second season at the club

This Wednesday, U. Leiria announced the departure of coach Vasco Botelho da Costa.

In a statement, SAD Leiriense explained that the coach informed those responsible “that he would not continue next season”, which led to an “agreement” between the parties “to terminate the amicable contract, immediately.”

In the same note, the Union clarifies that “until the appointment of a new technical team, João Dias, member of the house and coach of the youth team, will take charge of the professional team.”

Vasco Botelho da Costa was in his second season at the club, after having led the Leirienses to the League 3 title in 2022/23, which allowed him to return to the professional ranks this season. The 35-year-old coach leaves with the club in 12th place, with 31 points, 14 more in relation to the direct relegation zone.

“UDL – União de Leiria – Futebol Sad announces that, after Vasco Botelho da Costa informed that he would not continue next season, he reached an agreement with the manager and his technical team to terminate the friendly contract, immediately, in order to fulfill the objectives that are still open.

Along with the manager, other members of the technical team cease their duties.

Vasco Botelho da Costa remains in the history of this club for the return of the Lis emblem to the professional championships after more than a decade and for having obtained the title of national champion of League 3, achievements that are still very present in everyone’s memory.

This season is also marked by the return, after two decades, to the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup.

UDL – União de Leiria – Futebol Sad thanks the effort, commitment and dedication shown by Vasco Botelho da Costa and his entire technical team throughout this season and a half, wishing everyone the greatest professional and personal success.

Until the appointment of a new technical team, João Dias, a member of the house and coach of the youth team, will take charge of the professional team.”
