In addition to working on small design improvements, WhatsApp beta for Android now allows you to mention contacts in Status updates.

The new feature is present within version 2.24.6.19, and the messenger must still alert the user whenever someone tags you in a photo or video.

See the screenshot below for an example of a WhatsApp alert. In other words, something that follows what is done on Instagram, for example.

This feature is part of an important improvement coming to WhatsApp soon: usernames. The application has been working on this for some time and the function opens doors for the messenger to gain social network capabilities.

By receiving notifications when they are mentioned in a status update, users are more likely to engage with the content by contributing their comments or reaction.

For now, the function is under development and available to a limited number of beta users.

On another front, WhatsApp has been working on conversation filters and the option that allows you to pin more than three conversations at the top of the page.
