Apple Vision Pro “gives superpowers” to the surgical team in a spinal operation

-

The American company invested heavily in the development of its Apple Vision Pro. This device focuses on entertainment, but will also capture the attention of the world of “more serious matters” such as areas of mixed reality to help with health. An example of this was demonstrating his capabilities in the field of healthcare, providing assistance to a surgical team that operated on a patient’s spinal column in the United Kingdom.

It was the first surgery with Vision Pro in Europe and, without a doubt, one of the first in the world.

According to information, in surgery, the nurse who assisted the surgeons used the device, and, with this technology in front of her eyes, she was able to effectively help with the surgical procedure.

Vision Pro helps with spinal surgery in the UK

In the same week that Apple announced powerful new health applications for the Vision Pro AR/VR glasses, news broke about their use in an operating room, according to reports in The Daily Mail and others.

The use of the spatial computing device in spinal surgery two weeks ago at Cromwell Hospital in London marked the first time that Vision Pros were involved in helping with surgery. It all happened in the United Kingdom, according to eXeX, manufacturer of the artificial intelligence software installed in the Vision Pro.

The glasses' augmented reality capabilities came into play as they superimposed virtual images useful for operation.

Surgeons Syed Aftab and Fady Sedra performed two microsurgical procedures on the patient's spine. The device used eXeX AI software to track the phases of the operation. In the future, you will also be able to compare surgical results with similar procedures.

Here's how eXeX describes how its software works with Vision Pros in surgery:

eXeX software provides nurses and technicians with touchless, holographic access to the surgical setup and procedure guides from the sterile field of the operating room, allowing them access to data and visualization that was previously unavailable.

The platform has significantly increased the efficiency of surgical service delivery, with equipment and workflow accuracy improving patient outcomes.

Technology that gives superpowers in surgeries

Dr. Aftab said he had never worked with the nurse who wore the glasses. However, the device made it appear as if the nurse had a decade of experience. Aftab also mentioned that Vision Pro surgery with AI software could “give superpowers” to his team, comparing it to a Formula 1 racing team.

That's the idea – that it doesn't matter if you've never been to a pit stop in your life. Just put on your glasses.

Said the surgeon.

In fact, the quality of the hardware allows the creation of software with a very high technological profile, which can be an added value both in the medical and scientific areas, as well as in segments of high rigor and detail.
