As reported by users, it allows music to be searched in several different ways. This way, it is possible to find singing, whistling or reproduction of a specific excerpt when playing. This becomes especially useful for songs in other languages.
As YouTube has not yet officially commented on the change, there is little information at the moment. Therefore, it is not yet known whether it is part of a beta or whether the feature will arrive definitively. The possibility of this being a testing period lies in the fact that it will reach users in a few regions.
The expectation is that this option will soon also be available in the YouTube Music app for Android. This would make access to the feature that has long been awaited by users of the Google music app even wider.
Official feature arrives after similar apps
YouTube Music’s new music search is similar to other tools already available in the Google ecosystem, such as the Hum to Search option in Google Search and the music identification functionality on Pixel devices through the Now Playing feature.
Additionally, Android device users can use Google Assistant to identify songs by singing, whistling, playing or even playing an excerpt of the song.
As much as the glimpse of the feature may have brought a little hope to users, it is still highly restricted. Only a few Reddit users have reported the feature, while others have stated that they have not received any updates to YouTube Music for iOS.
