Apple postpones the launch of its foldable iPhone and prepares new features in the iPad line

Tech giant Apple is preparing technology aficionados for a future where foldable devices will be a constant. According to sources close to the company’s product development, a foldable tablet could be the first to be launched, joining the prestigious iPad family with a 7 to 8 inch screen. It is estimated that the new product will hit the market between 2026 and 2027, followed by an even more ambitious device: a 20.25-inch foldable, potentially a new member of the Mac line, scheduled for launch in 2028.

The market is also abuzz with the possibility of a foldable iPhone. Although its debut may be further away, the chances that it will reach store shelves before Apple’s other foldable devices are considerable.

Previously, 2026 was the year tipped for the arrival of the foldable iPhone, but recent reports, including information from the Korean publication Alpha Commerceindicate that the plan has been postponed until early 2027. The reason for the delay, it is suggested, is to give Apple more time to “Thorough preparations in all matters, including the present and demand of the folding show”.

Cupertino’s strategy remains the same regarding the selection of component suppliers. Apple would already be in partnership with Samsung Display and LG Display to develop screen prototypes.

One technical challenge faced by Apple is the issue of the crease that often appears in the folds of foldable smartphones. To overcome this problem, the company patented an innovative technique for engraving grooves on ultra-thin glass, reinforced with flexible polymers, allowing for less complicated folding and a practically imperceptible crease.

It was originally speculated that Apple would introduce the foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 era. However, with the new timelines, it is possible that the introduction could occur simultaneously or even share its shining moment with the launch of the foldable iPad – unless the latter also faces postponements.

Fans of Apple products can look forward to more flexible devices in the future, which promise not only to innovate in terms of design, but also in terms of functionality and user interactivity with Apple technology.
