The organization of 2023 Dakar Rally confirmed the death of a spectator during the ninth special of the competition held this Tuesday (10). The management confirmed that the fan was Italian and stated that he was transported to a hospital by helicopter after an accident on a dune, but he did not resist his injuries and died before even reaching the hospital.
“A spectator of Italian origin who was under a dune had an accident on the rally layout. He was evacuated by helicopter for medical assistance, but unfortunately he passed away during the transfer,” said the organization of the dakar in an official statement.

So far, there are no details of the accident suffered by the Italian spectator. This is the first confirmed kill in the competition.
The ninth special stage of the Dakar 2023 was won by the Frenchman sebastien loeb in the cars, in a stage that was also marked by a strong accident of the Spaniard Carlos Sainzwho had to withdraw from the dispute.
THE 2023 Dakar Rally returns this Wednesday for its tenth special, a shorter stage, with only 114 kilometers of timed section, but with 510 kilometers of displacement between Haradh and Shaybah.
