Military Police reinforce preventive and overt actions at school after student murder

The Military Police of Alagoas through the School Police Battalion (BPEsc) intensified security actions at the Rubens Canuto State School, in Benedito Bentes and is even more present since the incident that killed student Lázaro André Bezerra de Oliveira, 16 years old, on Wednesday (20).

The region was already part of the service teams’ Program Card, but daily, teams from the specialized battalion will carry out visits, rounds and base stations (so-called PBs) in the teaching unit. In addition to targeted operational actions at specific times of the day and night, institutional actions are being developed involving educators, students and the School Community Articulation Center (NACE).

This Friday (22), the deputy commander of BPEsc, Major Noemi Firmo, was personally speaking with the management to outline educational and preventive actions with the aim of further encouraging a culture of peace within the school community. In addition to daily community visits, there will be NACE lectures, conversation circles and meetings with the school community.

The planning also foresees the holding of the Escola da Paz Competition, with the possibility of prizes such as participation in the CineBPEsc Project – an event that takes students to a day of cinema and learning.

“BPEsc deeply regrets the tragedy and is committed to, together with the school, managing the damage and increasing the feeling of safety among students, teachers, managers and families in the school community as a whole. We trust in God and in the preventive work we have carried out for 30 years as a School Battalion. We will win!”, highlighted Major Firmo.

Another action already under development is the working group to combat violence in schools. In the official note published on Thursday (21), the Government of Alagoas reiterated its commitment to strengthening the activities of the existing working group, in order to intensify monitoring. There are 310 state teaching units with around 170 thousand students.
