The case of the hairdresser who was raped and attacked by her partner, last week, in Tomar, was highlighted today on SIC’s Linha Aberta program.

The program’s reporter was in the parish of Paialvo, in the village of Delongo, where the hairdresser lives, and heard neighbors who declared that there was nothing to predict such a situation as the attacker is seen as a friendly person.

The victim’s family was aware of the mistreatment and said they knew that the attacker had a machete and a gun at home.

It was also mentioned in this program that the attacker had already been convicted of domestic violence in 2011, with a three-year suspended sentence.

In the early hours of the morning when he committed the crime of rape, he took his wife to the Atalaia area and then to the Castelo do Bode Dam. According to the testimonies collected, his intention was probably to throw the victim into the water, but he didn’t have the courage.

Later, at home, he beat his wife, shaved her hair, her eyebrows, ripped out her eyelashes and cut off her index finger, which forced her to undergo reconstructive surgery in a hospital in Lisbon.

According to Linha Aberta, the attacker suffers from schizophrenia and without anyone knowing he stopped taking his medication, under the pretext that he was very drowsy.

The attacks were triggered by the fact that the victim informed him that he intended to get a divorce.

The attacker is in preventive detention, at the Caldas da Rainha prison, awaiting trial.

A case of domestic violence that provoked great revolt and indignation among the local population and, most particularly, among all the victim’s friends, family and clients.
