During the 1990s, serial killer Joel Rifkin terrorized New York by murdering 17 women. Convicted of the deaths of nine of these victims, he is currently serving a 203-year prison sentence. The two-part special that A&E premieres this Sunday, Cold Cases: The Rifkin Murders (Cold Case Files: The Rifkin Murders) follows in real time the NYPD’s latest investigation into Joel Rifkin’s two unidentified victims.

Through unusual access to the police, cameras follow investigators in this more than 30-year-old case, reignited by TV producer Peter Reiss, due to his relationship with the serial killer. Cold Cases: The Rifkin Murders also features never-before-seen interviews, including the first by Rifkin in more than a decade.

O A&E presents the special in two parts:

Sunday – 3/31
Serial killer Joel Rifkin took the lives of 17 women in New York before being caught in the act in 1993. Almost thirty years later, after interviewing Rifkin for a documentary, TV producer Peter Reiss uses his relationship with him to obtain information that may help the police identify his last two victims. After receiving important clues, the NYPD revisits the case and begins a two-year search for justice for Victims 6 and 9.

Sunday – 7/4
After 30 years, Joel Rifkin is providing New York City police with clues to identify two of his 17 victims – the only ones who remain unrecognized. The information he has provided has brought investigators as close as possible to identifying victims 6 and 9. However, when the police visit him in jail, Rifkin surprises them with something unexpected. In an effort to seek justice, TV producer Peter Reiss continues his own on-camera conversation with the killer to get answers once and for all.
