Deputy Afonso requests DNIT to urgently dredge the stretches of the Purus river that connect the municipalities in that region

Deputy Deputy Afonso (União Brasil) asked the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT/AM), through a request, to take measures to facilitate the drainage of stretches of the Purus river, between the municipalities of Pauini and Boca do Acre , due to the threat of an imminent drought and, consequently, economic and social crisis due to the impossibility of traffic.

The parliamentarian reinforced the request during a speech this Tuesday morning, 3/26, in the plenary of the Amazonas Legislative Assembly (Aleam).

On a recent visit to Pauini, on the occasion of the municipality’s anniversary celebrations, the deputy explained that he had traveled by boat on a stretch that connects the two aforementioned municipalities and investigated the need for dredging and signaling the river so that navigability does not become difficult. , especially during the dry season, hampering vessel transport.

“I visited other municipalities in Calha do Purus and received several appeals from local authorities and businesspeople about the worrying predictions of the consequences of the drought expected for 2024. We are ending the flood period, the drought is about to begin, and last year, these two municipalities were left without navigation. I made a request asking DNIT or whoever has the right to carry out dredging and signaling in this stretch between Pauini and Boca do Acre, so that if we have a major drought, navigation in this region will not be interrupted”, he highlighted the deputy.

It turns out that, with very low river levels, the forecasts are known by local riverside populations, with the isolation of cities and the impossibility of vessels transporting inputs to companies in the Manaus Industrial Pole (PIM).

A mobile river unit from the National Social Security Institute (INSS) began providing services to municipalities this week, providing riverside residents with ease in resolving issues related to retirement and pensions.

“During the trip, we found the social security boat that was in Boca do Acre and is coming down the river, today it is in Pauini. This boat does very important work in the interior of the State, it carries experts and a structure that is capable of helping these people”, said deputy deputy.

He also reiterated the need to dredge the river so that it does not hamper the traffic of this INSS boat.
