The death of a baby victim of alleged abuse in Porto Alegre is confirmed

It was confirmed, on the afternoon of this Monday (1st), the death of the baby who was admitted to the Conceição hospitalin Porto Alegresince last Thursday (28), after presenting injuries indicative of mistreatment. The girl’s parents, just one year and 10 months, are preventively detained on suspicion of child abuse and attempted murder. Now, with the death confirmed, the couple will face accusations of murder.

The specific cause of death will be determined after an autopsy examination. When the girl was admitted to the hospital, CT scans identified a brain lesion with hemorrhage, while an ophthalmologist noticed bruises on the back of the retinasuggesting possible sudden or violent movements involving the child’s head.
