biggest earthquake in 25 years in Taiwan

An earthquake with an intensity not seen in the last 25 years left deaths, injuries and extensive damage in Taiwan. At least seven people died and more than 700 were injured this Wednesday due to the powerful earthquake that damaged dozens of buildings and generated tsunami warnings that stretched from Japan to the Philippines, before being lifted. Strict building regulations and widespread public awareness about disasters averted a major catastrophe for the earthquake-prone island, which lies near the junction of two tectonic plates. The 7.4 magnitude earthquake was the strongest since September 1999, when a 7.6 quake killed around 2,400 people in the deadliest natural disaster in the island’s history.
