“It is a completely meaningless step from the point of view of guaranteeing our own national interests”Putin considered in the interview when discussing Swedish and Finnish accession to NATO, not hiding the clear signs of tension that is increasing in the Nordic region.

Specifically about Finland, a country that shares a border of almost 1400 kilometers with Russia, the Russian leader clearly said that he did not have “troops” there but that they “will now be” on the Russian-Finnish border.

“There were no destruction systems there, now there will be”Putin added, announcing that he will send military forces and destruction systems to the border region.

Meanwhile, the Finnish Prime Minister warned that Moscow was preparing for a “long conflict with the West”.

“Russia is clearly preparing for a long conflict with the West and represents a permanent and essential military threat to Europe”declared Petteri Orpo, this Wednesday, in the European Parliament.

“If we, as a united Europe, are unable to respond sufficiently to this challenge, the coming years will be fraught with danger and the imminent threat of attack,” he said before adding: “Russia is not invincible.”

Russia ready to use nuclear weapons

In the same interview, The Russian president also spoke about nuclear weapons and did not reject their possible use in the event of a threat to the State, sovereignty or independence of Russia.

Putin hopes the United States will avoid any escalation or action that could trigger a nuclear war, but repeated that Russian forces are ready if necessary.

The Russian president goes to elections again this week. In power for more than two decades and a candidate for re-election, Putin is the favorite in the presidential elections, in the absence of any opposition. The election is expected to keep Putin in power until 2030, the year in which he will turn 77, with the possibility of an additional term until 2036, thanks to a constitutional change made in 2020.

As for the war in Ukraine, which has been going on for more than two years, he was confident that Moscow will achieve the objectives it defined. However, Putin admitted that he was open to negotiations, while stressing that any agreement requires firm guarantees from the West.

“We are prepared, but only for negotiations that are not based on some desires after using psychotropic drugs, but on the realities that were created, as they say in these cases, on the ground”he stressed.
