O The US FBI has decided to charge seven Chinese citizens for links to a hacking campaign that took place over 14 years and affected millions of people on different continents – with many of them being members of the US government.

The computer attacks in question were carried out by sending more than 10 thousand “malicious emails” which, by pretending to be journalists and media groups, sought to get victims to click on ‘links’ to that it was possible to steal sensitive information.

“This announcement exposes China’s continued and bold efforts to undermine our nation’s cybersecurity and target Americans and our innovation,” can be read in the statement from FBI director Christopher Wray, shared by the BBC. “As long as China continues to target the United States and our partners, the FBI will continue to send a clear message that cyber espionage will not be tolerated and that we will relentlessly pursue those who undermine our nation’s security and prosperity.”.
