The Embu das Artes Urban Mobility Secretariat (Semob), in cooperation with the Municipal Civil Guard (GCM), collected more than 30 abandoned vehicles on the city’s streets. The Clean and Safe City mega-operation took place last Tuesday, the 3rd, on Ursa Maior and Centauro streets (Jd. do Colégio), São Caetano (Jd. Valo Verde) and Santiago Gomes Robles (Jd. Sadie).

The Secretary of Urban Mobility, Francisco Carlos Pereira, known as Kal, said that this was a confidential action, where only the agents directly involved knew their duties and where they operated. “I would like to thank all the Semob agents, municipal guards and tow trucks, as without them it would not have been possible for us to have such a significant number of vehicles collected,” he said.

Semob warns that abandoned vehicles cause a lot of inconvenience to the population. They interfere with traffic and become a risk to public health, as they accumulate trash and stagnant water, and can become breeding grounds for the dengue mosquito.

Also according to Semob, public safety is also affected, as many of these cars serve as places to use drugs and commit crimes, in addition to being a hiding place for illicit objects. There is also the environmental impact, as leaks of fluids and toxic materials can occur that contaminate soil and water.

To report abandoned vehicles, call: (11) 4785-3656.
