Porto Alegre has 1,263 confirmed cases of dengue in 2024. Of the total, 1,099 were contracted in the city (indigenous), 132 are imported (infection outside the city) and 32 do not have a determined location of infection. As of March 30, 13,020 suspicious occurrences were reported to the Communicable Disease Surveillance Team of the Municipal Health Department (SMS). In 2023, in the same period, there were 1,409 notifications and 611 confirmed cases.

The data is in the Epidemiological Bulletin published this Tuesday, 2, by the SMS Health Surveillance Directorate. The survey presents cumulative information up to epidemiological week 13 of 2024 – cumulative data up to March 30.

The 21 to 30 age group still maintains the highest proportion of confirmed cases (18.2%) and the majority of patients are female (54.5%). The main symptoms reported are fever (90.4%), followed by myalgia (body pain), headache (headache) and nausea.

Neighborhoods – There are cases spread throughout the city, but with a higher incidence in the São João, Higienópolis and Pedra Redonda neighborhoods. The incidence is equivalent to the number of cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. Therefore, a neighborhood with a smaller population, even with a low number of cases, can be considered to have a high incidence. The bulletin presents the incidence map to illustrate the presence of dengue in the city.

The Epidemiological Bulletin is a publication provided for in the SMS Contingency Plan for Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya. From this epidemiological week (14), the publication will become weekly, as the SMS triggered Level 3 of the Plan’s Response (high vector infestation plus the occurrence of cases above the upper limit expected for the moment and occurrence of death due to dengue ).

Regarding vector infestation, the week 13 survey recorded a critical index, with high or very high infestation in 44 of 46 neighborhoods monitored with traps.
