Autoeuropa today proposed to the Workers’ Committee a 5% salary increase for 2024, which it considers to be a proposal that “defends the purchasing power” of the company’s five thousand employees and “guarantees the sustainability of the factory” in Palmela.

According to an internal communication to which the Lusa agency had access, the proposal aims to “create conditions for a pre-agreement with the Workers’ Committee that is capable of maintaining the company’s sustainability and, at the same time, responding to the challenges of the European automotive industry”.

“This increase, with effect on salary tables from January of this year, not only defends the purchasing power of our 5,000 employees, but also values ​​the good performance of the organization in Portugal”, states the note sent to workers at the factory. Volkswagen cars, in Palmela, in the district of Setúbal.

“The proposal maintains the offer of an increase in the annual target bonus of up to 50%, which means that each employee will be able to additionally receive up to one and a half salaries in 2024”, adds the document, adding that improvements are also planned for workers in areas of “health, transport and social support”.

In internal communication, the factory administration also considers that the proposal presented to the Workers’ Committee “supports the current work model, which includes four teams working 19 weekly shifts, and which has been the basis of the company’s recent successes”.

Volkswagen Autoeuropa also highlights that “it has one of the biggest investment plans in its history underway – which amounts to 600 million euros – the main focus of which will be the new model [a produzir na fábrica de Palmela]the decarbonization of the production process by more than 80% and the continuous improvement of employees’ working conditions”.

Last year Volkswagen Autoeuropa produced 220,100 T-Roc cars, the only model in production at the Palmela factory. According to the German group Volkswagen, the T-Roc was the third best-selling car in Europe in 2023.
