The 28th Cheese, Bread and Wine Festival will take place from the 5th to the 7th of April, in S. Gonçalo, Quinta do Anjo, municipality of Palmela with several new features. The event organized by ARCOLSA – Regional Association of Dairy Sheep Breeders of Serra da Arrábida, continues to innovate and create better conditions to welcome visitors.
The president of ARCOLSA, Francisco Macheta, revealed that one of the new features is the Children’s Space, where children aged 3 to 12 will be able to have fun with inflatables, painting, modeling, cookie production workshops, among other activities, with supervision of kindergarten teachers, while parents visit and shop on the Festival grounds.
To make the outdoor space more welcoming, there will be more shaded areas. As for the catering offering, with different audiences in mind, in addition to the four usual restaurants, this year there is a vegetarian restaurant and another with meals designed specifically for children.
Francisco Macheta highlighted that the Festival is an Eco-event and, therefore, the organization calls on both producers and visitors to use the various recycling points spread around the venue and for visitors to bring reusable cups purchased in the previous edition . These glasses will continue to be on sale, as will the new wine glasses, which cost €2.5.
Azeitão Cheese, homemade bread, sweets, honey and the region’s excellent wines continue to be the main attractions. Over the three days, it will be possible to contact directly with the 39 producers present (17 wineries, nine cheese shops, four bakeries and nine sweets, honey and fruit).
The program, promoted with strong involvement from the parish’s sporting and cultural associations, includes activities for all tastes: sports (road bike, mountain biking, pedestrian or trail rides), equestrian activities in the riding arena, showcooking, demonstrations of traditional practices, such as cheese production, shearing and manual milking, and the large sheep races, 100% Saloias. On the stage of the gastronomic tent, to liven up the convivial time, there are several proposals, from a Folk Dance with Celina da Piedade, to Cante Alentejano or to the strains of the SIM Light Orchestra.
Entry is €2 for one day and €3 for three days. Traffic-free bracelets can now be purchased at ARCOLSA, Quinta do Anjo Parish Council and Casa Mãe da Rota de Vinhos, in Palmela.
The president of Palmela City Council, Álvaro Balseiro Amaro, considers that “it is a reference event in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area” and praised the organization for the “bold, creative and entrepreneurial way in which it renews and requalifies the event”.
For the President, in addition to the importance of promoting local products, the Festival is also «a space for promoting happiness», the «ideal event for a family weekend, a community meeting space, where it is possible to socialize safely, sustainably and there are attractions for everyone». «We are strongly committed to ensuring that, on the 5th, everything is in the best conditions to receive the thousands of visitors. It’s going to be a great weekend”, he believes.
Cheese, Bread and Wine also has the support of the Quinta do Anjo Parish Council. «We are active partners so that the Festival can be well received», said the President, António Mestre. In this edition, the Parish Council increased financial support, in addition to support for all preparatory work.
The Festival fits into Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 – Sustainable Production and Consumption. See the full program at www.cm-palmela.pt and plan your visit now!
