April is here and Paredes de Coura presents a set of initiatives to mark the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April.
Throughout the month, Paredes de Coura will evoke the anniversary with exhibitions – ’25 April 1974 Thursday’, by photographer Alfredo Cunha, and the documentary exhibition ‘Coura, Livre walks to the future’ -, music by João Afonso with CouraVoce, as well as the Luta Livre project by Luís Varatojo, but also interesting productions such as ‘Liberdade’, involving the educational community, or the community show ‘Free to dream’.
Teatro de Ferro proposes a puppet show for all ages, about the atmosphere of deaf terror that reigned for half a century, but there is also space for reflection and debate with the Municipal Youth Assembly, under the theme… “And until today I was always future.”
In another context, and also involving younger people, the commemorative mural “50 years, 50 drawings” will be created by artist Margaret Barbosa, based on the work developed by students from the Paredes de Coura school group.
The students’ work, in conjunction with the History, Visual Education and School Library teachers, emerged following the exploration of different texts/books and viewing of films, with each student subsequently creating a drawing explaining their interpretation of the 25th of April.
