Film with Wagner Moura, ‘Guerra Civil’ reaches 90% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes

The film Civil warstarring the Bahian actor Wagner Mourawho became known internationally for his role in the series Narcosreceived approval from 90% of critics in Rotten Tomatoes, one of the most important aggregators of film and television reviews. The production has 29 reviews already available to be read. The trailer already has more than 1 million views on YouTube (watch below).

The film is directed by Alex Garlandin Ex Machinaand the cast also includes Kirsten Dunst, from Spider-Man. The work premieres on April 25th in Brazil. Critics agreed that the film presents a tense and violent vision of the fight for survival in a nation in crisis, notable for its disturbing and shocking scenes of conflict.
Civil War takes place in a dystopian future in which U.S is on the brink of civil war, when 19 states secede from the Union. In the plot, Wagner and Kirsten play two journalists tasked with covering and navigating the dangers of this troubled political landscape.

The online magazine Inverse issued its opinion on the work: “A disturbing sensorial experience, which highlights the chaos and terror of war, with scenes so heavy, vast and intense, that you can practically smell the gunpowder in the air”. The critical consensus on website is presented like this: “Difficult and disturbing by nature, Civil War is a thrilling up-close look at the violent uncertainty of life in a nation in crisis,” it defines.

Graduated in journalism from Federal University of Bahia (Ufba), Wagner Moura said that he did a lot of research on war coverage. “I read lots and lots of books about combat journalism, which is a totally different kind of journalism. And I also connected with other professionals to understand what they feel in the combat zone, how the body reacts to an extreme situation like this,” he said.
