With the number of superhero films currently being made in Hollywood it is impossible for most of them to be original.

The opinion was shared by Gwyneth Paltrow, who was Pepper Potts in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films, when she recently participated in the popular program Hot Ones, where the stars answer questions while eating increasingly spicy chicken wings.

The host asked the actress what she thought of what Cord Jefferson, the director of “American Fiction”, said when he won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay on March 10: highlighting the “risk” involved in making big and low budget films , called on Hollywood studios to increase their diversity to reveal more talent: “instead of making one $200 million movie, try making 20 $10 million movies. Or 50 $4 million movies.”

“I completely understand what he means. It makes sense, doesn’t it? What you want is to have the best chance of getting a strong [retorno do investimento]. People invest a lot of money in these things and they want them to be profitable,” she explained.

“But if I look at the industry as a whole, there’s this kind of huge bias towards superhero movies. And what I think is that you can only make so many good ones that feel truly original,” he continued.

“And yet, they are always trying to reach as many people as possible, which sometimes undermines quality, specificity or a real point of view”, he noted.

The Oscar winner for “Shakespeare’s Passion” (1998) noted that she “grew up” doing a lot of lower-budget films.

“Sometimes I regret… I look at some of the films I made in the ’90s and think they just wouldn’t be made now,” he acknowledged.

“I really believe that you get more diverse art when there’s less at stake and people can express their true voice and make a film the way they want. And I think those are usually the ones that resonate the most,” he concluded.
