As expected, Max didn’t mince words and praised the guitarist who created some of the most memorable riffs of all time.

“He wrote the Bible of Metal and we’ve all read it thousands of times! Picking a favorite Sabbath riff is very difficult. It could be the opening to ‘Cornucopia’, but ‘Symptom of The Universe’ probably wins. That first riff with It always makes me think: ‘Game over’.

We had a chance to do a cover [de ‘Symptom Of The Universe’] when Sepultura did ‘Chaos AD’ and it was the hardest cover we’ve ever done. I was very nervous because the Sabbath is something sacred. You shouldn’t touch it, as if it were some kind of religious artifact,” said Max Cavalera, who was lucky enough to meet Iommi.

“I met him when Sepultura opened for Sabbath in Europe and he was a really nice guy, he took photos with all our kids.”

Finally, Max praised Iommi and compared the persistent Black Sabbath guitarist to a being from another planet.

“I read his book, ‘Iron Man,’ and it was really powerful stuff. If you’re reading this and need inspiration, buy this book! It talks about the accident that [Iommi] He suffered at first, almost giving up playing the guitar and then deciding not to, becoming the architect of the Heavy Metal sound.

I love Tony’s solos. They are great. But, at least for me, what matters are the riffs. To have invented these things before anyone else, he’s probably not even human. He probably came from outer space, man!” concluded the iconic frontman.
