Until now, it was necessary to wait 30 days after submitting the discharge. With the rules that come into force this Monday, the call for a medical board can occur at any time, as long as it is sent at least two working days in advance.

Another new feature is the possibility of the call taking place by email or telephone, instead of by letter, as until now. And the exam can be carried out via video call.

If the patient is bedridden, institutionalized or has difficulty moving, home examinations may be required.

Medical boards are now created “on the initiative of the Local Health Units” and there must be “at least one for each group of health centers or ULS”. Until the end of the year, Local Health Units “may hire specialist doctors on a service provision basis” with authorization from the Ministry of Health. They are exempt from medical boards, in addition to the special rules that cover cancer patients, “congenital conditions or others that confer a degree of permanent incapacity”.

O Newspaper writes, in this Monday’s edition, that, In just one month, private units and state emergencies issued 350 medical leaves per day – remember that, in this chapter, the rules changed at the beginning of March with the aim of relieving health centers.

The private sector and hospital emergencies suffered a total of 8,800 casualties.

Self-declarations of three-day sick leave, which since the beginning of the year can be requested through SNS24, reached 147 thousand.
