The average freight price per kilometer traveled fell 1.4% in March, compared to February, to R$6.20, according to the price index created by Edenred Repom. The main reasons are the delay in the grain harvest and the price per liter of diesel.

“We closed the first quarter of 2024 with an accumulated drop of 2.5% in the average freight price per kilometer traveled. In comparison with March 2023, when the value was R$ 7.97, the price reduction reaches 22%”, says in a note Vinicios Fernandes, director of Edenred Repom.

The latest estimate from the National Supply Company (Coanb) indicates that the country will have 146.5 million tons of soybeans, 8% less than the previous season.

The price of diesel, an item that makes up a large portion of the freight price, also follows a downward trend in the country. According to Endered Repom’s analysis, the common type closed March at R$5.96 and the S-10 at R$ 6.07, both with a reduction of 1%, compared to February.

In the quarter, fuel price behavior recorded small percentage fluctuations, between declines and increases.

“In the coming months, variations in freight prices should continue to reflect the performance of certain sectors of the economy, mainly agribusiness, in addition to factors such as fuel prices, which continue to lag behind the international market”, reinforces Fernandes.
