The accident involved two buses with tourists and caused the death of two Portuguese women.

Eight of those injured in Wednesday’s accident in Namibia were discharged between yesterday and this Friday, in the two hospitals where they had been admitted since the day of the accident.

Five of the Portuguese will return this weekend (Saturday or Sunday) to Porto Airport.

The rest are minor injuries, expected to be discharged soon.

The Portuguese Government already knows where the two bodies are. They are found in the morgue of one of the two hospitals mentioned above. Autopsies can only take place on Tuesday or Thursday.

12 people remain hospitalized. Six of them are between the ‘high care’ and ‘intensive care’ services of the two hospitals (Swakopmund and Welwistchia, in Walvis Bay).

In the accident that involved buses with tourists and caused the death of two Portuguese women, another 16 national citizens were injured, six of whom are still under observation in an emergency care unit. This Friday, the Government corrected the number of Portuguese people injured in the accident to 20, four of whom at the time did not require hospital treatment.

The Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities said that these citizens have been accompanied by the person in charge of the Portuguese consultation section who supports them, particularly with communication, as some do not speak English and are unable to communicate with the health teams.

On Wednesday, the advisor for Portuguese communities in the capital Windhoek confirmed that the accident occurred after 3pm (2pm in Lisbon), in the Kuiseb Valley, on the way to the largest sand dunes of Sossus Vley in the Namib Desert.

The accident involved two buses, which were carrying 40 tourists, with at least 22 Portuguese tourists in one of the vehicles, said Manuel Coelho.

Of the 22 Portuguese people involved, two died at the scene.
