Microsoft has never made as much money from its video game division as it did in the last quarter, according to the financial report for the first three months of 2023.

As revealed by the company, the purchase of Activision Blizzard King allowed Xbox to obtain more money at the beginning of the year, even with a sharp drop in hardware sales.

Revenue from Xbox content and services, with a very strong contribution from Game Pass, rose 62%, one of the main increases in a quarter in which revenue from video games rose 51%. Overall, the increase is especially attributed to Activision Blizzard as without its numbers, Xbox revenue would have fallen this quarter.

With revenue exceeding $5.45 billion this quarter, Xbox surpassed $20 billion this current fiscal year, two figures that represent records for Microsoft’s gaming division.

It should also be noted that sales of Xbox hardware fell by 31% in the first three of 2024, due to a “lower volume of consoles sold”, confirmed Microsoft.

For the quarter starting April 1, 2024, Microsoft expects a further decline in console sales and a large increase in overall revenue.
