The current epidemic situation in Jaraguá do Sul is a clear sign of the severity with which dengue can impact public health and, as a result, the community’s health service structure. In recent months, the city has seen an alarming increase in the number of dengue cases, calling into question the local health system’s ability to respond.

Therefore, contingency measures are being adopted. The next thing to be adopted from Monday (29) is the temporary suspension of elective care in hospitals and clinics in the region. This action, although drastic, would free up vital resources, both human and material, for the treatment of patients infected with the dengue virus. However, if until now the need for prevention has been insisted on as one of the effective tools in the fight against dengue, the situation now demands more than that.

The time has come to call on the community, especially those who are infected, to inform themselves about the pre-treatment methods that can be adopted at home, depending on the severity of the health condition, avoiding the total collapse of structural resources. Care begins with lots of hydration, and on an ongoing basis, including homemade serum, essential to combat dehydration caused by fever and vomiting, common symptoms of the disease.

The use of antipyretics recommended by healthcare professionals can help control fever, avoiding the intake of acetylsalicylic acid-based medications, which can worsen the clinical condition. Another important recommendation is absolute rest, which helps the body fight against the viral infection. More than ever, public health depends on both government actions and active community participation. Together, we can face this outbreak and reverse this worrying situation. The situation has become extremely critical.
