The 13th International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition – CA Ovibeja Award is receiving samples of olive oil from the four corners of the world. Those interested in competing can still do so until the end of March.
The Ovibeja Competition stands out for its high quality parameters, which is one of its most distinctive features, highlighting the fact that it is the only Portuguese competition with an international origin. Individual producers, producer associations, cooperatives and duly registered national and international packaging companies can participate in this competition.
Each competitor may present one extra virgin olive oil for each of the competition categories: Intense Green Fruity, Medium Green Fruity, Light Green Fruity, Ripe Fruity and olive oils from the Southern Hemisphere. The olive oils must be from the 2023/2024 campaign, except those coming from the Southern Hemisphere, which must be from the 2022/2023 campaign. Samples must be presented in a dark glass container with a tamper-proof opening system, accompanied by a label with the competitor’s identification code.
The competition Jury, chaired by José Gouveia, a retired professor specializing in olive oils, is made up of a panel of tasters from more than a dozen countries. This year the results will be announced during the 40th Ovibeja, in a ceremony held for this purpose, scheduled for Saturday, May 4th.
Created in 2011, the International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition – CA Ovibeja Award has been in the 1st group of the World’s Best Olive Oils ranking for several years, with the maximum score.
