PCP Braga demands measures for small and medium-sized farmers

-

The Braga PCP demands more support for the agricultural sector, with priority given to small and medium-sized farmers, “and not to agri-business, as has been the case”.

The measure was highlighted by the party delegation that visited Agro – International Agriculture, Livestock and Food Fair, one of the largest and most important agricultural fairs in the country, which ended this Sunday.

In a statement to PressMinho, the communists point out that “producers are not responsible for the increase in sales prices to consumers”, and denounce the authentic “dictatorship of large distribution” and “its negative role in national agriculture, taking into account the conditions which it imposes on producers”.

The PCP also states that “the difficult situation that farmers face, with the increase in the prices of production factors up to 100%, at the same time that they are faced with brutal cuts in CAP aid, which is increasingly unfair and penalizing small and medium-sized farmers and vacant land shares”.

Composed of Belmiro Magalhães, from the Political Committee of the Central Committee, Sandra Cardoso, from DORB, and Palmira Oliveira and Arlindo Cruz, from the Braga Municipal Organization, the delegation also defended the control of the prices of production factors, the guarantee of production flow at a fair price and a “strong Ministry of Agriculture, which integrates forests and rural development, and which reinforces decentralized support services”.

Another measure is the reversal “of the transition from DRAP to CCDR and recovering rural extension services”.
