Sara Naves Sousa, professor of the degree course in Animated Image at the Higher School of Education and Communication at UAlg, won the special prize from the Vasco Granja jury, at the International Animation Festival «Monstra 2024», for her animated short film «Estado of Soul».

The awards ceremony took place on March 17th, at Cinema São Jorge, in Lisbon.

Directed and written by Sara Naves, “Estado de Alma” is a 12-minute animated short film that tells the story of Alma, a woman who “wakes up every day with a new condition, suffering the more varied physical transformations that reflect her feelings of inadequacy and prevent her from following a normal daily routine. With each passing day, Alma gradually feels more alone and separated from everyone”, reads the film’s synopsis.

About the Monster

THE MONSTER | Lisbon Animation Festival emerged in 2000 and aims to celebrate artistic transversality, promote encounters between people from different arts and transmit new aesthetic perspectives, using Animation Cinema as a base.
