Tondela Chamber buys historic building to expand Terras de Besteiros Museum

Local authority purchased historic building next to the Terras de Besteiros Museum and the Main Church. Negotiations with the former owners took months

Tondela City Council recently acquired a historic building in the city center, next to the Terras de Besteiros Municipal Museum to expand this museum space. The property was purchased privately for 220 thousand euros, the municipality said.

The negotiation process, which took a few months, culminated in the municipality exercising its right of preference.

The acquired property, according to the Chamber, will be used to expand the Terras de Besteiros Museum and install some municipal services.

The building, also located in front of the Main Church, is located in the Special Protection Zone (ZEP) of Solar de Sant’Ana, which was classified as a monument of public interest in July 2022.

“This establishment of the ZEP aimed to avoid the emergence of interventions with a decontextualizing impact, safeguarding the maintenance of the fundamental characteristics of the building and the prospects for its contemplation and enjoyment, thereby guaranteeing the safeguarding of this heritage”, explained in a note the municipality of Tondela .
