Series will not take place in the Marvel multiverse

With What If…?, X-Men ’97 and the coming marvel zombies, the Marvel multiverse is being increasingly explored in animation. But the publisher’s new animated series, Eyes of Wakanda (or Eyes of Wakanda, in direct translation) promises to show the past of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, according to producer Brad Winderbaum.

In an interview with Men’s Health, the head of streaming, Marvel animation and TV, Brad Winderbaum, spoke about the Black Panther series, revealing that it takes place in the “sacred timeline”, the studio’s name for the main timeline shown in the studio’s films and series.

“We are exploring many incredible aspects in animations. Eyes of Wakanda, more than any other series, fits exactly into our sacred continuity of the MCU timeline,” explained the producer. “[Ryan Coogler] is one of the producers. Todd Harris is one of our long-time storyboard artists and directs the animation. It’s about the history and mythology of Wakanda, and it’s really cool. The view is incredible. And it seems to me, ‘Okay, we’re getting an animated take on the MCU.'”

Eyes of Wakanda will show other Black Panthers from the MCU.

Eyes of Wakanda will show former Black Panthers and the Dora Milaje in search of vibranium artifacts, so Shuri and the other characters from Wakanda that we currently follow in the MCU should not appear. In addition to animation, another series live action about Wakanda is also in development for Disney+.

The animated series is expected to debut sometime in 2024.
