At the time, the director had not yet stood out and could not stand the interference from Hollywood producers.

At 86 years old, Ridley Scott is one of the most respected directors in the industry and, like his brother, Tony Scott, his professional beginnings were not in cinema, but in the world of advertising. At the time, the filmmaker founded his production company and realized that his creative talent could take him to other levels.

Thus, Ridley Scott directed his first film, The Duelists, in 1977, when he was already 40 years old. As he himself recognizes, the work would have an influence on the way he would approach the new stage of his life, as he was already a mature man, with economic stability, very clear ideas and little desire to accept opinions from producers.

Ridley Scott’s Ruined Dream is a famous but disastrous 80s sci-fi film: Someone else did it, but that’s how Blade Runner came to be

In a recent interview with The Telegraph, the British director spoke about his career and revealed that Alien, the 8th Passenger, one of his most famous films, was also one of the most difficult to endure during the production period.

“In the early days, when I hadn’t made a name for myself, doing Alien was a nightmare because I had to explain every move… I was 42, independent and well off, so I didn’t want a Hollywood producer telling me what to do . During The Duelists, they asked me stupid questions. During Alien, they asked me even more stupid questions.”

This made me quite angry.

Although with The Duelists he had already caught the attention of critics and was even highlighted at the Cannes Festival that year, the film that really put him on the Hollywood map was Alienscience fiction that began a saga that is still active today.

After the success of the film in 1979, Ridley Scott established himself three years later with the dystopian science fiction film Blade Runner (1982) and hasn’t stopped since.
