Billie Eilish criticizes excessive merch and different versions of the same LP: “Irritating”

-

Billie Eilish has used his voice to raise awareness about the environment and sustainability and has not hesitated in criticizing artists who sell excessive merch, such as selling different versions of the same LP. “It’s such a waste and it’s infuriating to me that we’re still at a point where we care so much about numbers and making money,” said the singer in an interview with North American Billboard.

The subject came up after Billie was asked about her choice in making the album’s LPs “Happier Than Ever” with recyclable materials. “We live in a time when, for some reason, It’s very important for some artists to make all kinds of different vinyls and packaging… which increases sales and numbers and gives them more money and more…“, it started.

For the singer, “it’s a big and annoying waste” the way great artists surf this commercial wave without worrying about the impacts caused, in particular, on the waste produced that eventually ends up in the environment.

“It’s something that’s right in front of us and people are getting away with it left and right, and I find that very frustrating because I’m someone who really tries to be sustainable and do the best I can and I try to involve everyone on my team in sustainability – and then some of the biggest artists in the world make 40 different vinyl packs that have something unique and different just so you keep buying more“, he declared.

“It’s such a waste and it’s infuriating to me that we’re still at a point where we care so much about numbers and making money – and all our favorite artists are doing this sh*t,” completed.

By the way, Billie declared that he is aware that making sustainable merch may not be as profitable, but that he is “trying to choose between two evils”.

“What matters is the feel, the appearance and the way it is made. So the problem is making sure that my clothes are being made well, ethically and with good materials, that are very sustainable, that feel good and are durable. It’s going to be more expensive and that’s the problem: people might get upset about it.”
