OpenAI no longer requires an account to use OpenAI ChatGPT, the free version of the company’s generative artificial intelligence. With this, it is no longer necessary to log in to access the service, simply entering the site so that the chatbot is already started.

Other products, such as the DALL-E 3 image generator and the most powerful version of the chatbot, GPT-4, still require an account and subscription to paid plans to access.

To use features such as conversation history, sharing and voice conversations, you still need to log in to the website, which is free.

You can also prevent OpenAI from using the data generated by your conversation to train its AI models, even without an account. To do this, simply click on the question mark button in the bottom right corner, select “Settings” and deactivate the “Improve the model for everyone” option.

The company also says it has added “additional content protections to this experience, such as block and generational prompts across a wide range of categories,” but doesn’t detail what those protections are.

“We’re rolling this out gradually, with the goal of making AI accessible to anyone curious about its capabilities,” OpenAI said in a blog post.

This is the first time that ChatGPT has stopped requiring an account since it was launched in November 2022, becoming one of the most popular generative AI tools worldwide.

ChatGPT remains the most visited site in its category, with more than 1.6 billion visits in February, according to traffic monitoring site Similarweb, followed by Bing, with approximately 1.2 billion visits. Eliminating the ChatGPT login requirement could further increase its distance from competitors.
