Qfour days after the disappointment caused by their elimination in the Asian Champions League, Al Nassr returned to smile in the Saudi Arabian championship, this Friday, by beating Al-Ahli (0-1), in the trip to Jeddah, placing them nine points, under the condition of Al Hilal, Jorge Jesus and Rúben Neves. Cristiano Ronaldo was a hero, shouting ‘Siiii’ (twice, one goal being disallowed) and allowing the team to win three points, which also includes the Portuguese Luís Castro and Otávio.

The game was poor in scoring opportunities, but rich in emotions, firstly due to the fact that two goals were disallowed by the video referee – one for each side -, one of which was even scored by CR7. In the 43rd minute, the Portuguese international escaped the opponent’s defensive line and, without Mendy in goal, shot into the back of the net, but the goal ended up being invalidated by the VAR, due to a millimetric offside. During the celebrations, curiously, even the rival fans did the famous ‘Siiii’, and in the middle, Otávio was hit hard with a glass of water.

In the second half, the same story in the same goal, albeit with a different team. In the 57th minute, Firmino celebrated his return to goals by appearing loose in the small area defended by Ospina, but VAR intervened again and canceled the shot, also for offside.

As ‘there are no two without three’, the video referee identified a possible penalty in favor of Al Nassr, for a foul on Ghareeb, leading referee Facundo Tello to see the images and point to the eleven meter mark. This time, in the 68th minute, Cristiano Ronaldo shouted ‘Yesss’ with more conviction, proving to be decisive for the final result.

With this triumph, Al Nassr – after two consecutive losses in the championship – moves away from Al-Ahli in second place, with 56 points, nine behind Al Hilal, who will still play this Saturday against Damac.

Preview

Going through the worst moment of the season, Al Nassr travels to Al-Ahli’s stronghold, in Jeddah, this Friday, with the mission of winning again in the Saudi Arabian championship, after two consecutive defeats.

Increasingly further away from Al Hilal, Jorge Jesus and Rúben Neves, Luís Castro’s team – with the help of Cristiano Ronaldo and Otávio – aims to reduce the current 12-point gap, as far as possible, following their elimination from the League of Asian Champions, against Al Ain.

The Jeddah team aims to get closer to second place, precisely occupied by the Riyadh team, as they are separated by just six points.

The game’s starting whistle is scheduled for 7pm (Mainland Portugal time) this Friday and you will be able to follow the match’s events live, on Sport at the Minute.
