AMD Ryzen 9000: Zen 5 CPU could arrive in 2024 and be up to 40% faster than Zen 4

-

AMD is expected to announce its next generation of processors for desktops and notebooks soon, and although the manufacturer keeps hardware details under wraps, new leaks have revealed what we can expect from the new Zen 5 architecture. The information was revealed by a leaker known as @Kepler_L2 on X (Twitter).

According to your post on a forum, the new processors with Zen 5-based CPU will be up to 40% faster than their respective predecessors based on Zen 4, according to internal benchmark test results at SPEC. This could be one of the biggest single-generation performance leaps AMD has ever achieved.

The manufacturer has already confirmed that the Zen 5-based processors, supposedly called “Ryzen 9000”, will have improved performance and efficiency and optimizations for artificial intelligence. These advances must be obtained from design improvements, a new 4-nanometer lithography from TSMC and a new NPU architecture, XDNA 2.

The next generation should bring a line of desktop processors known as “Granite Ridge”, which will be compatible with the same AM5 platform that supports the Ryzen 7000, and a line of chips for notebooks known as “Strix Point”, which will include graphics cores integrated with the new RDNA 3 Plus architecture.

Continuing the product line that was successful among gamers, AMD is also expected to launch variants of processors based on Zen 5 with 3D V-Cache technology, which “stacks” cache memory modules to double their capacity — something crucial for several games that rely on this area of the CPU.

It is worth remembering that, in 2023, we discovered one of the first benchmark tests carried out with a processor based on Zen 5. Very few details about the hardware were revealed at the time, such as its CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads, indicating that it could be a model from Ryzen 7 series.

The expectation is that the new processors will enter the mass production phase in the third quarter of 2024. The first models should be officially launched in the last quarter of the year, possibly serving the desktop segment. Chips for notebooks should be introduced in early 2025.
