Maximum speed: Xiaomi 14 Ultra will receive 5.5G support and can exceed 5 Gbps in downloads

Xiaomi and Qualcomm have just confirmed that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra will receive support for 5G Advaced (5.5G) in China. This will allow the cell phone to download at speeds exceeding 5 Gbps, a record achieved in a test carried out with a local operator in partnership with Qualcomm and Xiaomi.

During the 5.5G speed test with the China Mobile operator, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra managed to beat all previous speed records by reaching 5,132Mbps with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X75 modem. This was possible thanks to ZTE equipment used for the operator’s network structure.

For comparison purposes, 5.5G promises to increase network capacity by up to 10 times, reaching 10 Gbps downlink and 1 Gbps uplink with simultaneous connection of up to 100 billion devices with reduced latency. Vivo has already started testing 5.5G in Brazil.

The update with 5.5G support will reach the Xiaomi 14 Ultra in the coming months, but the first cell phones in the world with this technology will be the Oppo Find X7, vivo X Fold 3 Pro and vivo X100 series, which will become compatible with 5G Advanced in April.

What they all have in common are the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300 chips, the only ones that support 5.5G at the moment, with just a software update required to enable the new network.

China Mobile intends to enable 5G Advanced in 300 cities in China to reach up to 20 million users of the new technology in 2024, when 20 new cell phones with support for it should be launched.

Additionally, Xiaomi has also filed a patent that suggests its future cars and the Xiaomi SU7 could receive improved satellite communication support.
