The Sentencing Council sentenced a defendant confessed to feminicide in Arroio dos Ratos, in the Carboniferous region, to 30 years in prison. Eliane Coutinho Rodrigues was attacked with a knife by the individual, who did not accept the end of the relationship.
During interrogation, Samoel Silva dos Santos, 35 years old, confessed to being responsible. He declared himself sorry for the crime.
The defendant responded for the crimes of triple homicide. The aggravating factors were gross motives, use of means that made it difficult to defend the victim, use of violence against women for reasons of their female gender – domestic and family violence.
The Jury Court was presided over by Judge Juliano Venturella Fontana, from the Itinerant Jury Project. The Sentencing Council was made up of three female jurors and four male jurors. The jury included Prosecutor Roberto Carmai Duarte Alvim Júnior, assistant prosecutor Lucas Chananeco and Public Defender William Foster de Almeida.
How was the case
Elaine Coutinho Rodrigues was 36 years old, she was a lunch lady at a school in Arroio dos Ratos and also worked in a bakery. She and defendant had a relationship for more than 8 years and had been separated for 3 months.
On the night of 10/07/2022, she was at home, getting ready to go to a party, when she was surprised by the presence of her ex-partner. According to the accusation, they argued because Samoel wanted to resume their romantic relationship.
Elaine would have tried to call the police, but was attacked by surprise. She was hit with several knife wounds, including in the face and back.
The son, who was at home, ran to the neighborhood asking for help. A neighbor and her son went to the scene and found the defendant hitting the victim, already on the ground.
After being restrained, the convict fled with the murder weapon, but was later arrested. Two knives with blood were found in the back of his mother’s house.
