Several areas in the provinces of Pinar del Río (far west), Havana, Matanzas, Artemisa and Mayabe are without electricity, officials from the electricity company said in a meeting chaired by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero .

Showers and thunderstorms associated with a frontal zone moving over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico and the western region of Cuba caused 26 landslides and nine bus interfaces were flooded in Havana, the Cuban Presidency added in a post on social media.

“As the rains subside, attempts will continue to restore electrical service,” said an official source, stressing that “no health incidents” have been recorded so far.

The Institute of Meteorology published photos of hail in the towns of Bahía Honda, Guanajay, Quiebra Hacha (Mariel, west), Bauta and in several municipalities in Havana.

The forecast for the next few hours indicates that rain and thunderstorms will continue in the west, possibly reaching part of the central area of the island.
