Respiratory syncytial virus and influenza have increased cases in the country

In recent weeks, Brazil has recorded an increase in the prevalence of cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza, which corresponded, respectively, to 35% and 21% of cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). On the other hand, there was a decrease in the relevance of the covid-19 virus, with 27% of SARS cases.

“In the Northeast, South and Southeast regions, we are already seeing an increase in the circulation of the influenza virus among all the viruses that have been circulating in recent weeks”, informed the director of the Department of the National Immunization Program of the Ministry of Health, Eder Gatti, in an interview press conference this Tuesday (2).

He advised the population that is part of the priority groups to look for health centers to receive immunization against influenza.

Regarding deaths from SARS, the predominance in recent weeks continues to be due to covid-19 (73%), followed by influenza (18%) and RSV (7%).

Since the beginning of the year, 8,489 cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome requiring hospitalization have been reported. Of these, 51% were due to Covid-19, 18% due to RSV and 13% due to influenza.
